Projects
Our Club is active in supporting a variety of local and international causes. One of our Club’s ongoing priorities is youth leadership development. Each year the governing Board proposes expenditures in support of community needs, international causes and club operations, including:
- CANstruction with Interact clubs from CCVS and SLSS. All the cans used to build this structure were donated to the Agape Centre
- The Rotary outdoor gym, opened in 2016 at Lamoureux Park.
- $30,000 for the Cornwall Community Hospital chemotherapy unit in 2014.
- Pledge of $50,000 over 5 years, starting in 2010, for the Cornwall 3+1 Project, now known as the Benson Centre. This pledge was paid off in 2013.
- A Matching grant for a total value of $18,000, started in 2012 along with the Madagascar School Project, for an access road that needed to be built to provide solar panels to the school to provide electricity. For pictures of the project click on the Antananarivo-Ainga newsletter on the left.
- $45,000 over 3 years, started in 2008-2009, to the Boys and Girls Club, assisted by a District Simplified Grant from the Rotary Foundation. We could not use that money for construction, so we paid for everything inside the washrooms, toilets, sinks, and taps.
- Renovations in 2008-2009 to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters building for $18,000, assisted by a District Simplified Grant from the Rotary Foundation.
- Pledge of $60,000 over 5 years, started in 2006, to the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation. This pledge was completed in 2010.
- Our club established the Rotary Eco Park, enhanced by the Rotary gazebo which was built as a Rotary International Centennial project in 2005.
Over the years, we have been involved directly, and with partners, in community enhancement projects such as:
- Drivers for Canadian Council for the Blind (CCB) every month
- Interact clubs sponsored at C.C.V.S. and St. Lawrence High School
- Bursaries to local schools, including the Doug Warner bursary of $1000.
- Youth Exchange, one long term candidate and unlimited short term candidates
- Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)
- Rotary Adventure programs and Science Fair sponsorships
- Blood Donor clinic in December of each year
- Service Club Council
- Children’s' Christmas Fund
